Beneful Undergoes Changes To Address Customer Concerns

The criticism leveled against the brand ranges from the use of propylene glycol to the possibility of mycotoxins. However, close to a third of the plaintiffs have dropped from the case and the allegations keep being changed by the class action lawyers. The company has made it clear that it does not plan to settle the suit.

Nestle Purina have embarked on reformulating the Beneful dry dog foods. In an interview with the Beneful team leading the changes, Vice President of PetCare Nutrition Research, Dr. Janet Jackson, the formulas have been undergoing development for more than two years and had nothing to do with the class action suit. The new formulas will be hitting select outlets starting May 9th.

All Beneful dry dog foods feature new recipes. All except one of the formulas will feature real meat, something that will come as a change. The formula that includes salmon will feature real salmon as an ingredient in 2017 as the company is still sourcing the required amount of salmon to implement the change.

Other changes include the removal of sugar from the list of ingredients and also the removal of propylene glycol. Dr. Jackson stated that the propylene glycol was used in making some of the pieces chewy, something that does seem to love. For dog lovers, the new formulas are worth a look.
